US News: Shoes rationed to 3 pairs per person per year

On February 8th 1943 the US Economic Stabilisation Director James F. Byrnes instigated shoe rationing..

Only three pairs a year per person, but as much shoe repair as you need…. Only house-slippers, childrens soft soled shoes and storm-type rubberwear (wellies to you and me!) were exempt..

We’re glad not to be experiencing those times just yet!
